Top 10 Myths About Chiropractors

There is no shortage of misconceptions and myths when it comes to chiropractic care. In most cases, these ideas are not even close to reality. Below are the most common myths about chiropractors.

1. Chiropractic Treatment Doesn’t Work

Most people think that we have no idea whether this treatment works or not. This isn’t true, as there is an ample amount of scientific evidence available that clearly suggests that it works.

Various studies have shown that chiropractic treatment is a viable option for dealing with neck pain, lower back pain, joint injuries, and shoulder pain.

2. You Only Need to Attend a Week-Long Class to Become a Chiropractor

This is the most ridiculous of all the myths, as it is so far from the truth. In fact, undergraduate students have to acquire a four-year degree by studying all the disciplines.

These students also have to pass the examination conducted by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners. Successful graduates can then practice as certified chiropractors.

3. Chiropractic Isn’t Safe

Chiropractic is as safe as any other healthcare treatment. Neck adjustments and spinal alignments are the most common chiropractic treatments, which can offer positive results after every session.

These are non-surgical and non-invasive treatments, which makes them safe and secure for patients of any age.

4. X-rays Are a Must for Receiving This Treatment

Although chiropractors may recommend X-ray examinations for certain reasons, not every patient will need to have X-rays taken.

5. Chiropractors Crack Bones

Chiropractor

This isn’t true at all, as chiropractors only apply the required amount of pressure to the relevant spine, muscle, joint, or nerve to help regain proper functionality of the body.

6. Chiropractic Care Can Only Treat Spine-Related Issues

Chiropractic care is an effective method to treat various disorders that relate to the spine, nerves, muscles, and joints. Therefore, this type of treatment can handle a wide range of ailments.

7. Chiropractors Can Cure All Disorders With Just Spinal Adjustment

Although spinal adjustments can treat various ailments, this doesn’t mean that chiropractors can treat all diseases through this technique. At present, chiropractors can offer specific treatments for different types of injuries or disorders.

8. After Visiting Once, You Need to See a Chiropractor Again and Again

This is just a myth, as in reality, a chiropractor only asks the patient to pay a couple of visits, to see whether the treatment is effective. Once the patient is fully recovered, they can revisit the chiropractic facility after six months or so.

9. Chiropractors Don’t Treat Infants and Babies

Although children have softer and more elastic bodies than an adult, they may still need to see a chiropractor to improve their growth. Infants face certain traumas during birth, which may affect their mental abilities and physical performance.

An experienced chiropractor can diagnose spinal misalignments in infants and treat them gently.

10. Chiropractic Care Is Not Covered by Insurance

This is where insurance companies step in and see whether the treatment offered to a patient is safe and effective. Since chiropractic care is a secure way to treat various disorders, insurance companies cover almost every treatment offered by a chiropractor.
